I’m Trisha Turner, and my passions are writing and editing. Well, of course they are. I’ve been doing those things for 30 years!
So let’s skip the I-was-born-to-write stuff (I was, by the way) and cut to the chase: I have a looong background of writing and editing for everything from newspapers, to schools, to nonprofit organizations.
Newspaper reporting. Media relations. Corporate and marketing communications. Freelance writing and editing. That’s my career.
Experience
After earning a bachelor’s degree in journalism and psychology from Ball State University (Chirp! Chirp!), I got my start as a newspaper education reporter in Kokomo, Ind. And a career of writing about education was born.

Since then, I’ve worked in media relations at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis. I’ve also worked in corporate and marketing communications for education-focused nonprofits USA Group, USA Funds and Strada Education Network in Indianapolis.
Along the way, I’ve done freelance writing for the Indianapolis Star and freelance editing of Simon Malls web content for an Indianapolis corporate communications firm.
Current work
Today I’m on the other side of things full time, as a freelance writer and editor in the Indianapolis area. I draw on my experience as an in-house communicator to focus on education, nonprofits, and — another of my passions — health and fitness.
I’ve worked with great organizations and publications like: American Legion Auxiliary, Archer Education, Civitas Learning, Conner Prairie, ECMC Foundation, Grassroots Grantmakers, Growth Institute, Hamilton County (Ind.) Tourism, Ivy Tech Community College and Towne Post Network.

My family and I live in the Indianapolis area — just northeast of the city, in Fishers, Ind., to be exact. If I’m not nose-down in my laptop, I’m usually attempting the latest workout to pop up on my YouTube feed. Or I’m hanging out with my family, debating important issues like who was better: Michael Jackson or Prince. (I’m Team Prince, but I’d love to know your thoughts.)
